Frequently asked questions

What do you compost?

We compost all food scraps. This includes meat, bones, dairy, fruits and veggies, cooked foods, greasy foods, moldy bread, stale chips, etc… If you were going to eat it, or if it was part of something you were going to eat, chances are we can compost it. However, if you are wondering about something not mentioned here or on our info sheet, please reach out to kelly@bucketruckus.cc and ask. It is always better to be safe than not-safe! Here is a link to our info sheet for quick reference.

What we do not accept at this time are compostable or biodegradable products. Under specific circumstances for special events we may accept certain BPI-certified products, but that must always start with a conversation with us first.

When do I get my bucket?!

We currently serve most of our residential clients on Thursdays. You will get your bucket the Thursday after you sign up. This information should come to you in a welcome email; if you haven’t received one yet, feel free to check in with kelly@bucketruckus.cc.

I missed my pick up…now what?

We have a locked drop bin for you at our warehouse in Stevens Point, the code for which is accessible in your customer portal. If you can’t make it until your next pick up date, you can empty your bucket there. We do not provide new buckets for missed pick ups.

Why didn’t I get a new bucket?

We unfortunately experience theft of our buckets. If you put your bucket out and then find that there is no replacement, it may have been stolen. Let kelly@bucketruckus.cc know immediately so we can get you another one. Feel free to inquire with your neighbors; it’s possible that it was mistaken for a free curbside item. If this happens more than once, or you feel your location may be susceptible to theft (like if you are on a busy street), let’s discuss an alternative spot for your bucket!

How do I change my subscription or card information?

Log into your customer portal by following this link. Here you will be able to update your card information, see how much material you’ve composted with us, change your subscription, see payment history, and more! Reach out to kelly@bucketruckus.cc if you have further questions.

What’s the black stuff in the bottom of my bucket?

Biochar! Biochar is produced by partially burning biomass, resulting in a remarkably stable carbon-rich material with high pore-structure and cation exchange capacity. These properties make it ideal for absorbing smell, storing nutrients and water, providing a home for microorganisms, and sequestering carbon long-term in the soil (thousands of years). Biochar is a carbon-negative technology, and the material has many useful applications. Feel free to reach out with any questions!

What if I have extra stuff that doesn’t fit in my bucket?

We can accept your extra items for a fee; find this item in the shop within your customer portal. For anything that would fit inside another one of our buckets, it is $5. If you have items that would fill more than one additional bucket, please increase the quantity to "2.” Please send an email to kelly@bucketruckus.cc to confirm your extra items pick up. Extra items must be in a paper bag or box with no tape or stickers, and please do not leave us a slimy, wet mess to pick up. If your extra items require non-compostable containment, please just communicate with us about that first. For your items to be collected on your pick up day, you must send your confirmation email by 5pm the day before your scheduled pick up.
